It’s hard not to fall in love with a city like Marrakech. There’s a constant buzz of excitement, energy and culture that keeps visitors wanting more. On our latest visit to the imperial city we were in search of something unique, luxurious and unforgettable. We found the La Sultana Hotel.
Nestled in the center of town, this boutique spa retreat is an oasis of calm and comfort amidst the swirl and bustle of the medina. Chosen by Forbes Traveler Magazine as one of the 400 most beautiful hotels of the world, La Sultana is undoubtedly the top pick for those seeking an opulent and exotic getaway.
The stunning hotel comprises of 28 suites split across five uniquely designed riads (courtyard houses) showcasing Moroccan craftsmanship at its finest, from the intricate stucco ornamentation to the hand-carved woodwork and tadelkat surfaces.
Our junior suite (situated in the Bahia Riad) carried all the La Sultana hallmarks of oriental splendour and extravagance. The bedroom and bathroom were like lavish boudoirs embellished with marble and zellige ornamental tiles. The room also provided double basins (for those who don’t like to share), a separate rain shower (in addition to the bathtub), a large king size bed, a separate seating area, a private balcony and guests are even given a locally made tagine to keep!
To top it all off, Turkish treats are provided in-room for guests on a daily basis. So every afternoon, we’d enjoy our traditional pastries and sweets in the comfort of our private balcony whilst savouring our Moroccan mint teas. It doesn't get much better than that! Or does it?
If you ever get tired of your fabulous room, you could always wander up to the hotel's
rooftop terrace to appreciate the sweeping views of the entire city. It's a truly amazing scene, especially at dusk when the city is gleaming under the sunset. While you're there, take the opportunity to revel in the traditional Moroccan cuisine at La Sultana's famous rooftop restaurant. How often does one get to experience such culinary delights under the stars?
Don't forget, a visit to La Sultana is not complete unless you've dedicated a day to the spa for relaxation and rejuvenation. The hotel offers a very impressive private sanctuary for weary globetrotters like us! This exquisite retreat comes fully equipped with open and private hammams (traditional Moroccan spa experience), massage rooms, lounges, a beauty parlour, a gymnasium, a sauna and jacuzzi. Insider tip; you must try the Argan oil treatments or natural black soap scrub. It's a local specialty and your skin will love you for it.
